The Atoni people have a tradition of statuary. The most famous are the Aitos - devotional statues but there has always been a wealth of smaller sculpture, amulets and charms performing a variety of functions - educational tools, a memorial to a deceased ancestor, toys for kids, showing the village doctor where you hurt and protective amulets for places or people.
