Fabric Hangers

Fabric hangers are a fast, easy, professional looking and economical alternative for displaying textiles. Artifacts such as fragments of weaving tools, cooking implements and in one case - a bird cage, have inspired the designs.

Ranging in size from 30cm - 12" inside useable length to 150cm - 60".

Each hanger will have two measurements. First is the outside length - nose to toes measurement and then the inside useable length.

Making it simple:

Measure your textile. Phone or e mail me the dimensions. A jpeg of the piece is helpful but not necessary. I will email back a list of available alternatives.

Prices are based on length.

Shown below is a half sarong panel in handspun cotton with natural dyes and small ikat scarf framed by two Dayak motif mahogany hangers.

The “Classic” or simple hanger. A popular choice as the head of the hanger is small and slips easily through a sleeve that can be basted onto the back of a textile. Decorative but not overwhelming this style works with many different styles of textiles. Hanger end 1" or 2.5 cm square.

Classic hanger version 2 - Basically the same as the classic hanger with softer carving and rounded dowel.

The “Kaki” hanger design is based on traditional backstrap weaving tools. Another very popular style for the same reason as the classic hanger and also because there is a gap of 1cm between the rod and the wall allowing thicker textiles to be draped over the rod without pushing the hanger out away from the wall. Hanger head measures 4cm square.

“Sangkar” named after the birdcage that was the inspiration for the motif. The hanger end is approximately 8cm at it’s widest point. Sizes range from 40cm / 18" inside useable length to156cm inside 190cm overall making it the longest of the long hangers. The open carving gives the option of hiding the hanging nails in the shadow of the head of the hanger to give a few more inches of useable space on the rod. Great for kimonos!
